Happy Birthday Aretha Franklin!!!

Today my Diva.....The Queen of Soul turns 68 today!!!

Wikipedia lists Aretha Franklin as:

Aretha Louise Franklin (born March 25, 1942) is an American singer, songwriter and pianist commonly referred to as The Queen of Soul. Although renowned for her soul recordings, Franklin is also adept at jazz, rock, blues, pop, R&B and gospel music. Rolling Stone magazine ranked Franklin No. 1 on its list of The Greatest Singers of All Time.[1]

Franklin is one of the most honored artists by the Grammy Awards, with 18 Grammys to date, which include the Living Legend Grammy and the Lifetime Achievement Grammy. She has scored a total of 20 No. 1 singles on the Billboard R&B Singles Chart, one of which also became her first No. 1 hit on the Billboard Hot 100: "Respect" (1967). "I Knew You Were Waiting (For Me)" (1987), a duet with George Michael, became her second No. 1 on the latter chart. Since 1961, Franklin has scored a total of 45 "Top 40" hits on the Billboard Hot 100 c
hart.

In 1987, Franklin became the first female artist to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.[2]

Franklin was the only featured singer at the 2009 presidential inauguration for Barack Obama.

This lady has been my idol since I could talk!! I have always loved the power of her voice and have always admired how deftly she uses her instrument. I had the pleasure of meeting my idol once and I was speechless for what had to be one of the few times of my life! (lol)....if EVER I get the chance to meet her again.....TRUST ME when I tell you I won't be speechless again!!

Happy Birthday Aretha!!! Have an AWESOME day!! Continued Success!

President Barack Obama Signs Historic Health Care Reform Bill

Still loving my President....

From AP...

Claiming a historic triumph that could define his presidency, a jubilant Barack Obama signed a massive, nearly $1 trillion health care overhaul on Tuesday that will for the first time cement insurance coverage as the right of every U.S. citizen and begin to reshape the way virtually all Americans receive and pay for treatment.

After more than a year of hyperpartisan struggle — and numerous near-death moments for the measure — Obama declared "a new season in America" as he sealed a victory denied to a line of presidents stretching back more than half a century. Democratic lawmakers cheered him on, giving the White House signing ceremonya rally-like atmosphere as they shouted and snapped photos with pocket cameras or cell phones.

So why am I NOT surprised that the Republicans are behaving like Klansmen (and women)...SMDH...Hell, they've be behaving that way ever since his name was put on the ballot. As a currently uninsured American, I am breathing a sigh of relief at this bill...It's a bad feeling when you hurt yourself and you have to make a decision that comes down to going to a hospital for emergency care OR paying your rent.....

It should NEVER, EVER come down to that choice....we live in one of the richest countries in the world....healthcare should be equal and available to ALL Americans....not just the folks who can afford it nor should the quality of your care come down to what you can afford to pay. Profits should NEVER come before the people.

Now that they realize that the fear-mongering and race-baiting is not going to work....it will be interesting to see how they will try to attack him next.
