This lady has been my idol since I could talk!! I have always loved the power of her voice and have always admired how deftly she uses her instrument. I had the pleasure of meeting my idol once and I was speechless for what had to be one of the few times of my life! (lol)....if EVER I get the chance to meet her again.....TRUST ME when I tell you I won't be speechless again!!

Happy 50th Birthday Chef Syncere!!

I had the pleasure of co-hosting the 50th birthday celebration for Chef Syncere Zakee, who is the hubby of my publicist Mary Moore.

The event was held last Saturday at Harlem's Alhambra Ballroom...WRKS-FM Quiet Storm DJ Lenny Green was also on hand to open up the show, which began with a couple of rounds of "Name That Tune" and some CD giveaways....





In addition to the sit down dinner and open bar (which featured my newest fixation...Hennessy Black) there was also a talent show that included music from the 5 decades of Chef Syncere's life and featured roller skaters, hustle dancers, singers and a couple of comedians.....one brother who's appeared on "Who's Got Jokes" and goes by the name of Foster was pretty funny!











Full Force's Bowlegged Lou, recited a poem that he penned for the birthday boy and sang "The Greatest Love of All" (Who knew he could sing? I certainly didn't!)....also on hand for the










celebration was former Right On! Magazine editor in chief, Cynthia Horner & Theresa Randolph of JT Productions.

Although I had a really good time I was struggling desperately to keep my cold at bay until the event was over and by the very last act my throat was on fire and my voice was totally gone!!! The birthday boy led of the first dance....The Electric Slide of course and the party took off from there!






I said my goodbyes, gave Mary a hug, took a big ol hit of Theraflu (which I had purchased BEFORE I arrived at the event) and walked quickly home, crawled under the covers and went straight to sleep!

Anyway, currently my boy is in Shanghai, China doing his thing and I just wanted to wish him unlimited happiness on his most special day!

Happy Birthday Freddie!!

Yesterday was my stepfather's birthday. Today my family headed up to the Bronx to celebrate his day. His name is Freddie and he is in the late stages of Alzheimer's disease. I baked him a lemon birthday cake and all of his children, grandchildren (except 1 who was unable to attend) and great grandchildren made the trip with us to spend the day with him.


The disease has robbed him of his memory and most of his cognitive skills but occasionally he has moments of clarity and recognizes his wife and family. It was those moments yesterday that brought me the most joy. The facility was kind enough to let us utilize their conference room because there were so many of us in our group (final count was 19!) We all had lunch and sang happy birthday, and you KNOW I never leave home without my camera...so I took plenty of pictures. We stayed with him for the better part of the day and occasionally we caught a glimpse of the person he used to be.

It was a long day but Freddie was happy and more importantly my mother was happy to see how much his family loves him.

It was a good day.

Queen Latifah Celebrates her Birthday in Hollywood

Queen Latifah, 39, blows out candles on her cake during her birthday party Saturday night at SIR in Hollywood.

The rapper performed on stage with Lil' Kim, Lady of Rage, Missy Elliot, Yo-Yo, and MC Lyte.

Among the celeb guests spotted at the party were Paris Hilton and Lindsay Lohan.

Chris is a DJ with his own show on WBLS-FM radio in NYC and became a pal of mine when we were introduced by mutual friend (and Chicago Homie) Julia Tirado-Mason. He's spun at several of my bday parties and he ROCKS!!!
