Ashley "AJ" Jewell, the ex-fiancé of Grammy-winning songwriter Kandi Burruss, died Oct. 2 after sustaining a head injury during an altercation in the parking lot of an Atlanta strip club.
Burruss, 33, star of the Bravo reality show Real Housewives of Atlanta, is devastated over the news. She wrote on her Twitter early Saturday morning: im just in one of those moods where i dont wanna talk, i dont wanna b held & told its gonna b ok. i just wanna cry myself 2 sleep, alone.
Kandi got engaged to AJ in 2009, and he frequently appeared on the Real Housewives of Atlanta with her. Newell and Burruss broke up in August but remained friends. Though he moved out of Burruss' home following their split, AJ's twin daughters remain in her care.
According to police, AJ was killed in the parking lot of Atlanta strip club Body Tap. Authorities say Newell got into an altercation with another party. The two got into a fist fight, and Newell suffered a severe head trauma. He was rushed to a local hospital and died shortly afterward.
