DJ Rockin' Rob marries Sharon Harrison

Whoo Hoo Family!

This morning my boy Robert "DJ Rockin Rob" Caines jumped the broom with his longtime fiancee Sharon Harrison. Me and Rob go waaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyy back to my days of hosting open mics at Willie's Lounge. At the urging of his brother, he decided to leave Perk's and come over to check out the happenings at Willie's....and I don't think he EVER went back to Perk's...lol. We've partied together, he's been to many a dinner party at my place and vice versa...and my family has officially adopted him as one of our own! Rob is also a talented drummer who occasionally would sub in when my regular drummer needed a break.

We just clicked from the beginning and have been friends ever since.

Rob is one of the kindest people I know and when he told me he was getting hitched, I was truly happy for him. The waters had been a little stormy for him for what seemed like a very long minute and finally things calmed down. He introduced me to Sharon a few years ago and I fell in love with her immediately (lol...and not just because we have the same name...but that didn't hurt either!). The two of them "fit perfectly" together and I wish them nothing but a lifetime of happiness.

The wedding was held in Hackensack, NJ and was scheduled to begin at 1pm sharp. My hubby and I took advantage of a ride out to the church with Gwen and her hubby Al. They picked us up a little after noon. (Rob had warned me NOT to be late!) So imagine our surprise when we arrived at 12:45pm and found Rob STILL in jeans and a shirt busily setting up the equipment for the reception!!!!

He had already prepped me and told me that he was going to be "playing" at his own reception and then playing at ANOTHER venue (APT. in NYC) AFTER his reception was over...(the boy is crazy ya'll!!!). After screaming and hollering at him for a few minutes to get dressed....he picked up his garment bag and headed for the dressing area. Once we saw him disappear, we made our way over to the church for the ceremony.

Before the ceremony began, I caught a glimpse of designer Paul Campbell in the waiting area and I immediately determined that he must have made her gown. I was trying to get his attention to say hello but by the time the ceremony was over, he had already left.

Rob finally entered the church from a side door and stood down front to wait for his bride, his son Rob Jr, was his best man and stood quietly by his side. Then the doors open and the bridal procession began with the parents of the bride & groom, followed by the flower bearers and a broom carrying groomsman (he was very cute ya'll) and the maid of honor (Sharon's daughter) with Stevie Wonder's "Ribbon In The Sky" playing as they walked down the aisle.

The doors closed again and when they opened for the last time, Sharon stood in the doorway in a red gown with a shirred bodice and rhinestones circling the off the shoulder top. The bottom half of the dress was an a-line chiffon skirt with a detachable train in the back. I thought she looked beautiful.

The couple also wrote they're own vows - Rob chose to have Brian McKnight's "Back at One" play as his tribute but Miss Sharon stole the show with the vows that she wrote to her beloved...I don't think I have been to a wedding where someone actually got a standing ovation for writing their own vows! When she finished Rob was smiling from ear to ear! (I LOVE it when my friends are happy ya'll!!!!)

After a beautiful musical tribute to the bride & groom by a friend of Sharon's and the lighting of the Unity Candles, the couple took their first communion together and then jumped the broom into their new lives....then they newlyweds lead the procession outside to greet their guests.

As the couple took off to take some wedding party photos, the rest of us were escorted into a holding area where the cocktail service was to begin. When they returned we were allowed into the main room which was decorated in Rob's "Mean Machine" Crew's colors Black & Red....which are also HIS favorite colors....hmmm...now that I think about it....the whole wedding theme was black & red!!

The "Mean Machine Crew" and I have a long history together....we have partied into the wee hours on many a night in our youth....lol....(remember the boat rides ya'll). I spotted Rob's partners

Chuck City, Tony Tone, Hazel and her husband Richie DeJesus, Mo & his wife Elizabeth, Rob's brother Tony, his niece Erica & Rob's nephew Mark...along with many other familiar faces at the reception.

The bride and groom entered the room to thunderous applause and headed to the dance floor to have their first dance as husband and wife.
Then Rob shared a dance with his mother and
his new mother-in-law. And then the dinner service began..... We were seated at lucky table #7....

The catering was provided by Miss Maude's Spoonbread on 110th St & Cathedral Parkway in NYC. The dinner consisted of grilled salmon in a special sauce, baked chicken, a mixed salad with avocado, a bean mixture of string beans, snow peas & carrots that was REALLY good! with roasted potatoes. The dinner was followed by the announcement that the dancing was to begin NOW

Rob hit the floor running when they began to play some old school hip-hop and classics. Now you know I love me some old school....but my boo is a certified house head....and since no house music was played...lol...you know he stayed glued in his seat! I noticed that Sharon had changed out of that skirt and switched to pants made out of the same material....fabulous!

As the hour grew late and Rob told me that the party was extended for another hour, we decided to catch the bus back to NYC because we were both worn out.

I wish the happy couple nothing but the best of everything as they head out to Las Vegas for their honeymoon.

Congratulations to you both and know that I have nothing but love for you both!!!

Live long and prosper!
