Dwight Eubanks Rules of Etiquitte

Dwight Eubanks, the stylish hairdresser from “Real Housewives of Atlanta,” talked to Essence Magazine about his recent fiftieth birthday party and his rules of etiquette.

Make an Entrance
Whether it’s a Monday at work or the party of a lifetime, enter every room relaxed and with a smile. For Dwight’s fiftieth birthday he exited a stretched Hummer with five gorgeous escorts who ushered him in—three women and two men. “One woman just wasn’t enough, “ he adds with a chuckle. And a strong entrance starts with good exit from home. “Always look in the mirror before you leave and keep a mirror by your door,” Dwight adds. “Usually that one thing that catches your eye needs some attention, whether the lipstick color is off or you have a few crumbs. And when you see people who didn’t check, be a friend and let them know.”

Communicate and Clear the Air
Many were surprised to see “Real Housewives of Atlanta” cast members Sheree Whitfield and NeNe Leakes show up together at Dwight’s party after not getting along on the show. But not Dwight, who always looks forward to a reconciliation. “We’re not going to always get along, but we have to communicate and talk. I always speak my mind,” he says. “We also have to truly let things go and forgive. You have to release the anger to free your own self up. Beauty starts from the inside then goes out.”

Flaunt Your Stuff
If you got it, you better work it. For Dwight, that’s fashion sense and personality, and he is using both as he prepares to open the doors to The Vogue, his Black department store, this summer in Atlanta. “You have to use the talents you have; if you don’t, you will lose them.” One of Dwight’s favorite moments from his bash was having women all more than 250 pounds from Three Tons of Fun dance and strip down to their thongs, and, of course, he joined them. “I need a big woman. The little skinny women—that’s why they're so evil, because they're hungry. (Laughs.) You have to work with what you have and make it work. If you are two-feet tall, make it sharp. Embrace whatever flaw you have.”

Try Something New
From your fashion to your food, Dwight stresses the importance of going beyond your comfort zone. “Get outside of your community. Try something new every week or month, even if it’s just wine tasting. How do you know you don’t like squid if you’ve never tried it?” he says. “Try a new hair color or throw in some hair. It was so great to see Steve Harvey go bald because that hair was just not working. Don’t be afraid to branch out.”

Never Settle
As a hairdresser and confidante, Dwight has seen and heard it all when it comes to man drama, and he has two words for Black women: Don’t settle. “Occasionally, I get caught up in it too, because we all want companionship; but to settle for something, that’s half of a man you don’t need. Women can do so much better on their own. Don’t be satisfied with a piece of a man. And remember, if you sleep with dogs, you get fleas.” And it’s not just about men and money, as Dwight encourages women not to accept less in any part of life. “Life is about having fun. Enjoy it! Never forget, you really are a gem.”

The magazine also includes photos from Eubanks’ jungle-themed birthday party, which was attended by both Nene Leakes and Sheree Whitfield.

Eubanks told Essence that he prefers big women: “I need a big woman. The little skinny women — that’s why they’re so evil, because they’re hungry.”

'Angel' Star Andy Hallett Dies at 33

I was both shocked and saddened to hear this news. I am a big fan of the TV series Angel (often getting up at 6am to catch reruns) and Lorne was a favorite character of mine.

He will be missed.

(March 31) - Andy Hallett, the actor who portrayed the cheerful green-skinned demon Lorne on the TV series 'Angel,' has died from heart failure following a five-year battle against heart disease, according to E! Online.

His friend and agent Pat Brady confirmed that the actor passed away at the age of 33 on Sunday night at Cedars-Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles with his father Dave Hallett by his side.

The actor and musician appeared in more than 70 episodes of Joss Whedon's series 'Angel' between 2000 and 2004 and contributed two songs to the 'Angel: Live Fast, Die Never' soundtrack, released in 2005.

Hallet's career took off when he was dragged on stage at a concert to sing with Patti LaBelle. He was later seen in a Los Angeles revue by 'Buffy The Vampire Slayer' creator Joss Whedon, who created the demon character Lorne in the show's spin-off 'Angel' just for him, according to WENN.

A private funeral service will be held for family and close friends in Cape Cod, where Hallett was raised.

Michelle Obama is NOT pregnant! Sasha having hoop dreams?

Michelle Obama says she was insulted by insinuations she was pregnant: "I was like, 'Baby bump?' As hard as I work on my abs?"

First Fan Barack Obama needs to chill out about his daughter's affinity for hoops. So says the First Lady.

"Barack's losing his mind," Michelle Obama told Oprah Winfrey, when the TV queen asked about 7-year-old Sasha's interest in basketball during an interview for O Magazine.

"I was like, 'Settle down - don't act too excited, or she will not want to do it,'" Michelle Obama said.

Earlier this year, President Obama oozed excitement as he relayed how his youngest decided to follow in the family hoops tradition.

"Sasha, you know, I think maybe to endear myself to her, she - she decided she wanted to join a basketball team," Obama said on NBC. "So, what more could I want?"

Star Jones to "Come Clean" on Oprah tomorrow?

For the first time, Oprah talks to Star Jones—the 160-pound weight loss, The View, the truth. Plus, Valerie Bertinelli's new bikini body and Marie Osmond!

The show which covers "Losing Weight in The Public Eye" sounds like a must see episode. I, for one am still a fan of Star's and I am definitely interested in what the Diva has to say....particularly about her marriage and subsequent divorce from Al Reynolds....

Makeup and fashion gurus sue Queen Latifah

Morning Fam....I found this on Reuters Life!:

NEW YORK (Reuters Life!) - A makeup artist and a fashion stylist sued U.S. singer and actress Queen Latifah on Monday, claiming they were owed hundreds of thousands of dollars for their services over the past five years.

In two separate lawsuits filed in Manhattan federal court, cosmetics consultant Roxanna Floyd and fashion stylist Susan Moses accused the Grammy Award-winning singer, whose real name is Dana Owens, of breach of contract.

Floyd claimed she is owed more than $700,000 for helping develop, produce and market the "Queen Collection," which is the singer's line of cosmetics for CoverGirl.

Moses claimed she is owed more than $300,000 including for advising Owens, 39, in her role as the spokeswoman and model for "Curvations," a lingerie line that targets fuller figured women.

The lawsuits said Floyd and Moses ended their working relationships with Owens in February 2008. Both women have also consulted for Owens in her film roles, including "Hairspray" in 2007.

A spokeswoman for Owens was not immediately available for comment.

The No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency

I watched this new series starring curvy diva Jill Scott in the lead role of Precious Ramotswe tonight. And guess what?

I thoroughly enjoyed it. I was surprised to find the underlying theme of celebrating the beauty the fuller figured woman...lol..despite the haters! Kudos! There was a stunning dark chocolate colored, shaved head sister in the premiere episode....Holla! I also loved the chemistry between Jill and her supporting cast, Dreamgirls Diva Anika Noni Rose is wonderful as Precious' new assistant Grace Makutsi; newcomers Desmond Dube & JLB Matekoni are wonderful as well. I was pleasantly surprised at the appearance of the sexual chocolate-ness of the newly bald (and EVER MORE sex) Idris Elba!!!!

Fabulous Wednesdays at Katra Lounge - The Password Edition

What Up Fam!!!!?

So this past Wednesday, I managed to muster up some energy and headed down to Soho to check out the second installment of "Fabulous Wednesdays at Katra Lounge". This month's event was called the "Password Edition", in order to gain admittance - you had to know the password.

Now if you don't know the deal about Katra already, it's 2 for 1 drinks from 6pm till 8pm - so you know I got there WAY before 8 O'Clock (lol).

Greeting me at the door was the beautiful face of my BFF and 1/2 of the Fab Wednesdays team, Gwen "Diva" DeVoe, who was rare form early on and began telling the guests as they arrived that the password had expired an hour ago and they needed to know the NEW password - lol...the look of confusion on their faces before she let them in on the joke was priceless.

I stood in the vestibule for a while (as someone so graciously offered me her OTHER glass of wine (I did say 2 for 1 right?) which I was more than happy to begin my evening with (lol). As we were getting caught up the other half of the Fab Wednesdays team, Tonya Giddens came out side with TWO French Martini's in hand. I decided to go in after awhile to check my coat and see what was going on inside.

The first person I saw was my longtime pal Laura Burwell, who doesn't come out often, sitting at bar and I was absolutely GIDDY at the sight of her! I ran off to check my coat and then returned where I proceeded to taste (and then finish...lol) this wonderful middle eastern salad (it had garbanzo beans, red onions, tabbouleh and a whole bunch of other stuff in it...it was DELICIOUS (and she had Lamb Kabobs on the side...yeah..I ate those TOO!!! Yummy!).

The vibe at Katra is real cool fam...I actually LIKE chilling there. Anyway, I hung out at the bar talking to Laura, and struck up a conversation with the gentleman on my right who I kept bumping with my arm (sorry love!)...I watched as folks began to pile in....Plus model Shanta Renee (IPM) was in the house, Marco Mays came shortly after as did my girl Suzette Banzo. Also on hand celebrating her birthday was chocolate diva Talesha Paillere (who looked beautiful in yellow and white). The celebs stopped through to show their support as well......

Comedians Drew Fraser & John Smooth, 4 Star Entertainment's Bill Foster brought Curvy Vocalist Alyson Williams with him & Designers Qristyl Frazier, Jewel Shannon, who was also celebrating her birthday....It had been several years since I last saw Miss Jewel (and it took me 5-6 years to retrieve a FIERCE silver pump that wound up in her bag rather than mine)...lol

The DJ's (yeah...there were two) were on fire and spinning old school classics that were making my knees weak (literally!). Folks started pulling dances out from back in the day (The Wop, Break Dancing...well NOT actual break dancing...and a SOUL TRAIN LINE...lol that 2 for 1 drink thing will get you every time!!!) When the "walk off" began and the "Voguing" started...it was all over for me! The party was so good that old "house heads" like myself and a few other's came out of retirement to put some time in on the dance floor....

I had a blast fam...haven't been able to dance like that for a moment...my knees are gonna keep me up all night!!! But it was TOTALLY worth it!

See ya'll next month!!!

Jennifer Hudson to Play Oprah in Biopic?

jhudvideo

A producer is coming up with his names for an Oprah Movie and Jennifer Hudson is first on his list:

John Dixon is working on a new unauthorized movie project on the Bigger Than Life broadcast mogul, Oprah Winfrey. This will be the first ever attempt to inspire a motion picture dramatization of Oprah Winfrey’s rise to fame from her humble beginnings in rural Mississippi. Dixon says his original movie idea covers the media queen’s trials and tribulations, from her troubled childhood, to becoming an anchorwoman, her relationship with family and friends, her romance with Stedman, her purchase of Harpo Studios, to her many humanitarian contributions. “There is no way that the story of the most influential, successful and powerful woman in television should go untold. Oprah deserves and earned this type of ‘Big Screen’ honor and there should be no delay in making this first of its kind movie a reality. Oprah positively inspires countless women daily on her more than popular, Oprah Winfrey Show.” Dixon states that his story will be part fictional based around factual events. Dixon says his original idea derived from his many encounters of both women and men, who named Oprah as their personal role model and/or hero. Dixon is also the first to suggest that Oscar winner Jennifer Hudson play the lead role of Oprah. “I feel that Hudson will no doubt rein in another Academy nomination for her portrayal of Oprah. I see many similarities in Winfrey and Hudson, not only do they look and act alike as in (The Color Purple and The Secret Life Of Bees) but they also seem to have the same positive vibe.” Dixon believes that his “O-Project” will be a huge hit among millions of people across the globe. “It’s just a simple success story on achieving the American Dream!”
