Queen Latifah Narrates New Poetry Themed TV Series for HBO

A new TV series about youth poetry slams and narrated by U.S. rapper-actress Queen Latifah is expected to debut on HBO next month, the network announced.

The Los Angeles premiere of "Russell Simmons Presents Brave New Voices" is to take place April 1 at special event at the Warner Bros. lot in California.

Hip-hop mogul Simmons is on the guest list for the screening and party, which will feature live performances by poets and appearances by members of the Los Angeles youth non-profits, Get Lit and Peace4Kids, the cable television network said.

"New Voices" chronicles the teenage members of poetry slam teams from six U.S. cities as they compete in regional competitions that culminate in the annual Brave New Voices National Slam competition produced by Youth Speaks.

The seven-episode TV series is to debut April 5 on HBO.
