Danielle Gets The Boot From Stylista

So last night I tuned in once again to catch curvy chick Danielle do her thing on Stylista on The CW network last night. They had two tasks to complete in this episode...

First up the "Assistant" Task: The challenge is to purchase a thank you gift for Anne Slowey to give to Amy Sacco, a nightclub owner. They divide themselves in to two man teams: Danielle & Ashlie, Megan & Johanna and Kate & A Very Unhappy Dyshaun.

Danielle and Ashlie put together a travel survival kit, grabbing anything and everything in budget. It's pretty hard to imagine that what they got cost $250, and Slowey very shadily tells them that a "goody bag" is probably not a good choice for jet setters.

Megan and Johanna also go the travel route, buying a cashmere throw blanket. Slowey's not in love with the quality. Dyshaun and Kate stick with the classics: a vintage Chanel brooch. Kate tries to relate it to art in front of Slowey, but when pressed can't name any art that it reminds her of.

Megan and Johanna win the challenge.

The "Editorial" Task: Next, they're all headed to a party at Bungalow 8, where they'll help Slowey meet, greet, and identify all the guests. Then they'll create a party page for Elle, including photos, fashion highlights, and a unifying theme. Johanna and Megan, as winners, are rival team captains.

Johanna uses her first pick to choose drama queen Kate, which surprises everyone. Johanna says that Kate has an amazing memory. She also selects Danielle. Megan gets Dyshaun and Ashlie, who is the last one picked.

Slowey then tells them that as an added bonus they can select an outfit for the party from Elle's fashion closet (anyone else see what's coming here...?)

As everyone's going crazy picking outfits from the Elle closet, Danielle runs to a closet crying and terrified that nothing will fit her. Finally, she pulls herself together and finds an outfit, though she's not in love with it and winds up wearing her own dress. Of course we NEVER get to see her try on said outfit but it was clear to me that the pink top she selected was never going to fit her.

Cut to dinner time where Danielle is telling everyone that she knows it doesn't SEEM like it but she really doesn't eat a lot of food....and then proceeds to stuff her face with several slices of pizza while simultaneously proclaiming "I really can't eat another bite..I'm stuffed!"....to which her table mates reply "So stop eating then". (I will admit....I would have been unable to refrain from responding as well).

Afterwards, Danielle continues to push the issue and asks Johanna and Ashlie what they think of her size. Um, REALLY bad idea. Johanna is honest, and says that high fashion clothes look better on tall, thin women, and that's who she finds to be more attractive. At some point folks began making rather rude comments regarding "the big pink elephant" in the room.

It is at this point that I feel that Danielle removed herself from the competition (at least mentally). The MINUTE she began tripping and asking folks about how they felt about her size...I knew she had lost and would be eliminated that evening....if I didn't know better....I'd swear I smelled a rat here. They dangled the bait in front of her and she took it....

By taking on the task of TYPING captions and not really inputting anything into the project, she was able to literally hide herself away in a corner and be invisible. Never a good thing on a reality competition. The judges call her out and of course she gets the boot. No big surprise here.

But this is what REALLY gets my goat about Danielle....

She HAD to know going into this competition, that there would probably be an issue with clothing for her. (Girlfriend, you're from New York...you already KNOW the deal!) She also knew that by being on this show she would be mingling with all sorts of folks from the fashion industry....so as someone who was ALREADY working in fashion...why would you NOT put a few fabulous items/outfits in your suitcase as a back up??? Better yet, you're a visual merchandiser...you must have SOME contacts in the industry....why not let your "connects" help you put together a fabu wardrobe to wear on the show???

Why run off into hysterics, when the closet was opened?....c'mon girl...it's ELLE!!! You read that magazine. You KNEW there'd be nothing for your curves in that closet. Why not go bonkers on accessories & shoes and create a great outfit using what you had in your suitcase? Why would you come apart at the seams over something like this? I just don't get it. I'll be honest....I was completely disappointed in her behavior & performance on this episode.

It just looked to me like she didn't fight hard enough to stay. Trying to beat ignorant people over the head about your "normalcy" is like talking to a brick wall. You can't TALK about it....you have to SHOW them that the little roadblocks and obstacles (designed to make you stumble) won't affect you. You just keep rolling with the punches and surprising them at every turn. THAT'S how you stand out and win a competition! She began to doubt her abilities and then she quit. And that bothers me....a lot. She says she is (was) quite content with herself but maybe it's just me....I didn't believe that at all. If you are truly comfortable in your own skin, then nothing as trivial as a fashion closet should have gotten to you.

Perhaps she was tired of it all....I don't know family.... (but you're like 22...how tired could you be?)

By the way, I heard the promos for this episode were down right insulting....I'm glad I didn't get to see them.

Anyway, the downside of this is that I never really got to see her talent...and the upside is....

I no longer have to watch this show. Whew.

Wow did you see the same show i did.

THIS WAS A SET UP FOR FAILURE

What does it say about a women's fashion magazine that they have a mans suit but not one thing for a plus size women. They picked these contestants. I smell set up.
Its interesting that danielle says to the waif
like contestants that you have more issues with your weight then I have. the whole show
was built around Danielle's weight and then she is sent home. Lets just let women know that your hard work does not cut it when you don't fit the part or the dress.

keeping it real

Amen, to everything you said regarding Danielle's tantrum. I said the same thing about her choosing to take the bait and get unravel instead of taking advantage of the situation and showing everyone that you can't keep a larger sized woman down. She was a complete disappointment.

Of COURSE it was a set up...

But set up or not....she didn't have to take the bait. She could have beat them at their own little funky game but she didn't.
